November is
National Adoption Month. Nationwide,
there are 115,000 children and youth in foster care waiting for
adoptive
families. Find national resources on

The Youth
Court Questionnaire has now been released by the Nebraska
Foster Youth
Council and the Through the Eyes of the Child Initiative as a method
for
children and youth to provide input in their cases. If
you are a Guardian ad Litem, caseworker,
Service Coordinator, or someone who works with youth, you are urged to
encourage them to complete it. The Youth
Court Questionnaire is intended for any youth with an open CPS
case,
regardless of age or placement, at anytime and as often as they would
like,
especially since circumstances frequently change. Contact

The
Through the Eyes of
the Child Initiative, through the Nebraska Court Improvement Project,
has
developed a Microgrant Project that will be funding up to $10,000 total
per
year in local projects proposed by local teams. The project is aimed
to
allow local teams to lead development and implementation of small
projects that
will improve abuse/neglect court processing in their communities. The
deadline
to apply for a grant is February 1, 2011. For more information,
contact
your local Team Coordinator or Kelli Hauptman at khauptman2@unl.edu.
2009 Team Data Reports now available online
The Team Data
Reports that were released at the 2010 Regional Conferences are now
available online. These reports cover all foster care cases
that were closed in 2009. Teams are
encouraged to use the reports to guide action plan development. If you have questions, please contact Kelli
Hauptman.

Ramon N. (18 Neb. App. 574, ____
N.W.2d ____, October 5, 2010) Refusal to invalidate an
adjudication order that was not ICWA compliant was proper because ICWA
provisions apply prospectively from the formal identification of the
child as Indian, because there was no basis for collateral attack and
because Neb. Rev. Stat. 43-1507 does not apply where there is no denial
of substantive protections of ICWA. Being a member of a tribe and the
mother of the child are not sufficient facts to establish that the
person is a qualified expert under ICWA. Full
