OMAHA — Seven children abandoned in September under the state’s safe-haven law by their widowed Omaha father will remain with an aunt in Lincoln.
Douglas County Juvenile Court Judge Elizabeth Crnkovich ruled Tuesday on the placement, ending a long process to find a foster home for the children.
The father dropped off a total of nine children at an Omaha hospital Sept. 24 saying he was overwhelmed by his family responsibilities.
The children ranged in age from 1 to 17. The two oldest chose to stay in Omaha so they wouldn’t have to change schools.
The children were among the 36 left under the law that previously had no age limit. Lawmakers revised it last month, adding a limit of 30 days.
